18th
My dearest Henry
We have had a
disturbed and fearful
week while the scenes
of violence and blood
have been passing at
New York – Thank God
there is a temporary (at
least) lull in the storm.
Gen. Seymour has been
one of the authors of this
disgraceful & deplorable
transaction – and with
the state government in
favour of mob rule I
did not see how it
