Letter from Frances Miller Seward to William Henry Seward, August 6, 1863
Thursday Aug. 6t
My dearest Henry
This is the day
designated by the
excellent Proclamation
as a day of Thanksgiving
I would gladly have
gone to Church and united
with those who gave thanks
for the blessings given
us – I have been to
the house of mourning
where the mother who
weeps for her only child
will not be comforted
Helen Day died last
night at 9 oclock –
