WHS travelled to the plantation in Putnam County, Georgia where Rossetta was born in 1821 to teach at the plantation. In 1866, Rossetta was writing from Macon County, Georgia as a recently emancipated slave. She asked for support from WHS as she had eleven children, six of whom she was still supporting in 1866. Her master was Major William Alexander and his wife, Elizabeth Lane Alexander taught her how to read. The name of Rossetta's mother was Milly Alexander.
