Eliza Blair worked alongside her husband, journalist Preston Blair, to create the Washington Globe. Eliza ran and edited the foreign affairs, human-interest, and special features sections of the paper. The Blair family was very close with President Andrew Jackson and often vacationed with him. Eliza was also a healer and kept many tubercular members of her family healthy with her herbal remedies. She cared for Senator Charles Sumner after being caned on the Senate floor by Preston Brooks, and she opened her home to injured Civil War soldiers.
