Biographical Information
Lewis Davis Campbell worked as a publisher, printer, and then lawyer in Ohio. He was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first, Thirty-second, and Thirty-third Congresses and as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress. He was re-elected to the thirty-fifth Congress, but was not elected to the thirty-sixth Congress. He served in the Union Army, and was appointed the Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Mexico on May 4, 1866, and served until June 16, 1867, when he resigned. He was elected to the Senate in 1869 and resigned in 1870. He was elected to the Forty-second Congress.,He married Jane Hough (nee Reily) Campbell, and they had atleast two daughters, one named Catherine, who married Oscar Minor a colonel in the Civil War.
