Biographical Information
A son of David Sealy and Mary Dickerson Canfield and a brother of Mahlon Dickerson Canfield (MDC). He graduated from West Point Military Academy in the class of 1822. He was a Captain of the Topographical Engineers at the time of his death. He was also in the Florida war with General Scott, and afterwards was in charge of the construction of light houses on Lake Superior. He married Mary Sophia Cass on October 22, 1841 in London, and together they had five children. He lived and was buried in Detroit, Michigan.
