Biographical Information
After graduating from the Litchfield Law School, William Thomas Carroll became a professor at George Washington University in DC (formerly Columbian College). He served as a Clerk of the Supreme Court from 1827-1863. Fun Fact: He was the one who purchased the Bible Lincoln used for his swearing in and wrote on the back that "I, William Thomas Carroll, clerk of the said court do hereby certify that the preceding copy of the Holy Bible is that upon which the Honorable R.B. Taney, Chief Justice of the said Court, administered to His Excellency, Abraham Lincoln, the oath of office as President of the United States."
