Biographical Information
George Grier was a prominent lawyer in New York State. At the beginning of his career, Gov. William H. Seward appointed Grier the surrogate of Orange County in 1840, a position he held for several years. Grier married Seward's cousin, Frances Elizabeth Grier, in 1833. As a married relation of the Seward family, Grier was also an executor of Samuel S. Seward's will and a trustee of the Seward Institute in Florida, NY.
