David Aiken Hall worked as a lawyer in Washington, D.C. In 1821, he married Susan Apthorp (nee Bulfinch). In 1834, he married Martha Maria (nee Condict), with whom he had a daughter, Martha Maria Condict . In 1838, he married Abigail (Wolcott) Ellsworth. With Abigail he had the following children: William Frederick, Ellen Ellsworth, Alice Lindsley, Martin Ellsworth, Fanny Elizabeth, and Martha Wolcott.
