Biographical Information

Hugh McClallen was born September 7, 1791, to Robert and Jane (Williams) McClallen of Albany, New York. In an 1814 Albany Directory, Hugh is listed as working as a gunsmith. An 1833 edition of the Auburn Free Press lists Hugh as running a gun shop near the corner of Genesee and Hotel Streets in Auburn, New York. In 1835, Hugh married Clarinda Miller, Judge Elijah Miller's younger sister and Frances Seward's aunt. Hugh died on November 16, 1860, and is buried at Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn.
