Biographical Information

Paulina (Titus) Miller was born c. 1751 on Long Island, New York, where she met and married Josiah Miller. Sources indicate that both Josiah and Paulina came from Quaker backgrounds, but there is little evidence to substantiate this other than family colloquial history. Paulina and Josiah moved to Bedford, Westchester County, New York, before the American Revolution. Paulina had ten children, including Elijah Miller, father of Frances Miller Seward. In 1790, Paulina and Josiah and their younger children moved to Pittstown, New York, and four years later to Romulus, New York. After the death of her son Elijah's wife, Hannah, in 1811, Paulina temporarily helped care for her two young granddaughters in Auburn, New York. Paulina died on October 3, 1835.
