Biographical Information

Christopher "Kit" Morgan, Jr. was born on June 4, 1808, in Aurora, New York, to Christopher and Nancy (Barber) Morgan. Christopher attended Yale College (graduated in 1830) and studied law. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and served from 1836 to1843. In 1843, he moved to Auburn, New York, where he continued to practice law. From 1847 to 1851, he served as Secretary of State of New York. He was appointed Superintendent of New York public schools from 1848 to 1852. Christopher served two terms as Mayor of Auburn in 1860 and 1862. He also served as a Trustee for the State Lunatic Asylum in Utica, New York. On October 24, 1832, Christopher married Mary Elizabeth Pitney with whom he had four children. Christopher died in Auburn, New York, on April 3, 1877.
