Biographical Information

Hanson Risley was the father of Olive Risley, William Henry Seward's adopted daughter. He was born in Fredonia, NY and was a lawyer. As Governor. Seward appointed him the Master in Chancery, and he was elected the Clerk of Chautauqua County in 1854. Risley was elected to the NY State Assembly in 1861. President Lincoln appointed Risley a supervising special agent of the US Treasury, and he held this post through the Johnson Administration. 

Despite William Seward adopting Olive in 1870, Hanson did not pass away until 1893.
