Mentioned in 18370101EPS_WHS1. Also possibly mentioned in 18350305RAS_FMS1 as "brother Calvin" who "has been verry sick". Rachel also had a brother named John Calvin who died a year after the date of this letter, so it is more likely it is the brother than Calvin Gardner, Rachel's brother-in-law.
- Calvin was Harriet's second husband, and Harriet was Calvin's second wife (of four). Calvin's wives were: Hannah Valentine, Harriet Armstrong Smith, Harriet White Cash, and Effa Ann White (Harriet Cash's older sister).
- "Calvin was born on the family homestead near Carpenter's Point, NY (near present-day Port Jervis). Calvin and his brothers often helped their father in running the ferry across the Delaware River.
- During the active part of his life, Calvin resided near Goshen, on the farm afterwards owned by Garret Thew(?) and in 1881 where Dominie (Rev.) Staats(?) resided. Upon retirement, he moved to Middletown NY and stayed for 1 year. He then moved to Hamptonburgh NY, where he resided 9 years, after which he returned to Middletown and stayed for 16 years until his death.
