Reverend Joseph A Schneller was born in Austria, and came to the United States at a young age. He was assistant rector in St. Mary's Church, Albany. He was pastor at St.Mary's, Albany, from 1838-46. He was then pastor at St.Paul's, Brooklyn, until his death. He was one of the first editors of the first Catholic paper published in New York, "The New York Weekly Register and Catholic Diary".
