Biographical Information

George Washington Seward was born on August 26, 1808. He was the youngest child of Mary Jennings and Samuel Sweezey Seward and brother of William H. Seward. George resided in Florida, New York, in a home he built adjacent to the Seward homestead for the duration of his life.

In contrast to his brother, William H. Seward, George lived a relatively quiet life, taking little interest in either politics or business.  George married Temperance Wicke Laddell in 1822, with whom he had five children. After Temperance's death in 1843, George married Julia Caroline Humphrey in 1852, with whom he had three children.

George died at his home in Florida, NY, in 1888, of old age.
