Biographical Information
Charles Talbot Porter was an American mechanical engineer, machine producer and father of the high-speed steam engine. He graduated from Hamilton college in 1845, and read law in the office of his father John Porter. He then practiced law for several years in Rochester and New York City. By the end of the 1840s he had become disillusioned with the law and turned to engineering. Porter was the first to recognize the advantages of fast rotating machinery and the internal forces analyzed in machines. In 1858 he invented the loaded governor and 1861 he made ​​his isochronous governor patented. In 1862 he presented with John F. Allen (1829-1900 [1] ) at the London exhibition, the Porter-Allen high-speed engine. At the World Exhibition in Paris in 1867 , he presented the only high-speed steam engine. 1880 he exhibited at Thomas Alva Edison in Menlo Park, a steam engine on.
