Biographical Information

John Lawrence Schoolcraft, born in Albany, NY in 1804, engaged in mercantile pursuits prior to his election as a Whig Representative from New York, serving in Congress from March 4, 1849-March 3, 1853. From 1854 until his death, he served as president of the Commercial Bank at Albany, NY. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1860 and died while returning to his home from the convention at Chicago, in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada on June 7, 1860. He was interred in the Albany Rural Cemetery.
